2018年初夏、近藤のスタジオでレコーディングが始まった。
録音も、ミックスダウンも、コンピューターを使わず行われた。
だからだろうか「space children」はガレージバンドのように生々しい音をしている。
楽器を演奏するミュージシャンたちのテンションを感じる。
近年耳にする、巧妙で均された楽曲にはないエネルギーが宿っている。
聴きごたえ、骨のあるアルバムだ。

KONDO・IMAは1984年から93年まで7枚のアルバムをリリース。
東西ヨーロッパ、旧ソ連、アメリカ、オーストラリア、中国など世界各国でライブを展開。
ポップスターに比べれば、国内では無名に近かったKONDO・IMA。
ただ福山雅治、布袋寅泰、宮本浩次ら多くのミュージシャンからの注目を集めていた。
国内外から評価を得る中、突然の解散。そして25年ぶりに「space children」で復活を果たした。
近藤等則は2019年に全国各地とヨーロッパでのライブを目論んでいるという。

KONDO・IMA 21はライブバンドだ。本作の演奏を聴けば、ライブを想わずにはいられない。
山木秀夫のドラムが五月の風の如く耳をかすめる。酒井泰造のギターがIMAのアイデンティティーであることは変わっていない。時にJazzy、時にDubbyなシンセサイザーは軽快明快。その男、富樫春生。
Kakueiのパーカッションが景気をつけている。近藤等則のメロディーは健在。

忌野清志郎作詞の「Friendship」含めボーカル曲が6曲ある。
CD「space children」と19年のライブ、ぜひ両方を楽しんでほしい。
